Brother and sister Derek Maxfield and Melanie Huscroft founded the cosmetic company Younique in September 2012. According to the Younique website, their mission is “to uplift, empower, and validate women across the globe.” They state that they firmly believe “that all women should feel valued, smart, and empowered through opportunities for personal growth and financial reward!”

What sets Younique apart from many other direct selling companies is their emphasis on recruiting and selling through social media websites. In addition to home parties, they encourage virtual parties. Using Instagram, Facebook, and Google Plus you can invite guests, send reminders, and host a party with virtual games and demonstrations.

When you sign up as a “presenter,” you get an assortment of Younique products in a starter kit and a website. The starter kit is priced at $99 and includes $294 worth of merchandise. Also, they often offer new presenters an optional collection of products for a fraction of the price you would typically pay.

Popularity

The word “Younique” has over 200,000 Google searches per month and the term “Younique makeup” has over 40,000 searches per month. The corporate Facebook page has almost a half million likes, and there are Presenters whose Facebook pages have over 100,000 likes. Mentions on social media are through the roof as well.

Younique’s popularity is in the top 20 among all Direct Sales companies in the world.

Products

One of the most popular Younique products is the Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes+ mascara which increases lash volume by up to 400 percent.

Compensation

Thankfully, Younique’s compensation plan is simple to understand and doesn’t contain a lot of gotchas. Many MLM companies try to increase their profits through what they call “breakage” in their comp plans. When we see this, we drop their compensation plan ranking. Younique doesn’t do this.

When you become a Presenter, you’ll have 60 days to earn $50 credits to buy products through their Fast Start program. Accumulate 1,000 in Personal Retail Sales (PRS) or sponsor a new Presenter to receive each $50 credit.

You will earn 20% in commissions when you sign up as a Presenter. As you advance in rank, the percentage continues to rise until you reach 30% commission.
